As Meta's products and services continue to play a significant role in the daily lives of people across France and Europe, policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders naturally wish to engage with us — and we with them. The Public Policy team manages these conversations, sharing information about the company's products and activities, responding to queries from policymakers and regulators, and providing input into the development of regulation — in service of Meta's mission to build the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible. We are looking for a Director of Public Policy for France who combines a deep knowledge of the French political and regulatory landscape with a passion for emerging technologies, proven experience influencing complex policy outcomes, and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team. France is a market of significant geopolitical weight that can individually shape EU-wide decisions, particularly on AI, innovation, and digital regulation — making this a strategically critical role. As the successful candidate, you will be part of a team that is dealing with some of the most important public policy challenges of our time, including AI governance, online safety, privacy and data protection, competition, intellectual property, and the role of technology in economic growth and democratic engagement.



Public Policy Director, France Responsibilities




  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and lead Meta's public policy strategy in France, ensuring alignment with European and global objectives, contribution to our Europe-wide public policy strategy while addressing the unique dynamics of the French regulatory environment

  • Government & Institutional Engagement: Represent Meta at the most senior levels in meetings with government ministers, elected officials, regulators, and senior EU officials to advance our policy positions — particularly on AI, innovation, and digital regulation

  • Policy Development: Shape and align policy positions in collaboration with internal teams including legal, communications, functional policy, and product teams, translating complex regulatory challenges into actionable strategy

  • Coalition Building: Build and lead coalitions with industry partners, trade associations, think tanks, academic institutions, and civil society organisations to advance Meta's policy goals — in particular with regard to innovation-friendly regulation and simplification of EU frameworks

  • Regulatory Monitoring & Risk Management: Monitor and anticipate legislative and regulatory developments affecting Meta in France, advising the company on risks and opportunities

  • Industry & Ecosystem Engagement: Engage at C-level with key French industry players, positioning Meta as a thought leader on technology, AI, and innovation, and converting industry partnerships into political and regulatory outcomes

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across Meta — including product, engineering, legal, communications, and trust & safety — to ensure policy positions reflect product realities and regulatory requirements

  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop the Public Policy team in France, enabling team members to thrive and deliver against strategic objectives

  • External Communications: Communicate Meta's positions at public events, conferences, and with media as appropriate





Minimum Qualifications




  • 15+ years of experience in public policy, government relations, regulatory affairs, or a related field, with significant experience in the French political and regulatory environment

  • Proven track record of leading complex policy and advocacy campaigns with demonstrable impact at senior government and regulatory levels

  • Deep understanding of the French political system, regulatory institutions, and legislative processes, as well as familiarity with EU policy-making dynamics

  • Full professional fluency in both French and English, as the role requires direct engagement with French policymakers and regulators as well as coordination with Meta's global English-speaking teams

  • Experience leading and managing teams

  • Established network of relationships with senior political, regulatory, and industry stakeholders in France

  • Evidence of strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and policy issues into clear, compelling positions

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality position papers, speeches, and presentations

  • Experience in working effectively in a fast-paced, global environment, prioritizing competing workstreams based on impact, deadlines, and stakeholder needs across functions and geographies

  • Demonstrated sound judgment and a consistent record of ethical decision-making in politically sensitive environments





Preferred Qualifications




  • Prior experience in a multinational technology company or similarly complex, fast-moving organisation

  • Advanced degree in Political Science, Law, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field

  • Experience working across European markets or with EU institutions

  • Experience in the technology sector or with technology-related policy issues (AI, data, competition, IP, online safety)

  • Track record of engaging effectively at CEO/ministerial level in France

  • Demonstrated understanding of AI policy, digital regulation, and innovation frameworks

  • Experience with French industry ecosystems (tech, telecoms, media, manufacturing)

  • Experience in government, regulatory bodies, or with senior government institutions in France
