Founded as a French subscription-TV channel 40 years ago, CANAL+ is now a global media and entertainment company. On 22 September 2025, CANAL+ confirmed it is in effective control of MultiChoice Group and beginning the integration process. MultiChoice is Africa’s leading entertainment platform, offering a wide range of products and services, including DStv, GOtv, Showmax, M-Net, SuperSport, Irdeto, and KingMakers. Together, the new combined group has 40 million subscribers worldwide, operates in over 70 countries and has approximately 15,000 employees. 

CANAL+ operates across the entire audio-visual value chain, including production, broadcast, distribution and aggregation. It is home to STUDIOCANAL, a leading film and television studio with worldwide production and distribution capabilities; Dailymotion, major international video platform powered by cutting-edge proprietary technology for video delivery, advertising, and monetization; CANAL+ Distribution, a production and distribution company specializing in creating and distributing diverse content and channels; and telecommunication services, through GVA in Africa and CANAL+ Telecom in the French overseas jurisdictions and territories.  

CANAL+ also has significant equity stakes in Viaplay (the Pay-TV leader in Scandinavia), Viu (a leading OTT platform in Southern Asia) and UGC, a leading French cinema group.  

From the CANAL+ office in Luxemburg the activities for Austria, Belgium, Czech, Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and SPI are being coordinated.  

Job Objective

The Legal Counsel reports to the General Counsel and provides in-house legal advice with a focus on the company’s Dutch, Belgian and Swiss (French speaking) markets, has a generalist approach to law, is business oriented, and is willing to tackle all legal issues, using a commercial and pragmatic approach.

Your responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including contracts with operators in the telecommunications and media sector (eg distributors, platforms, studios…), with a business approach.
• Provide legal advice to CANAL+ Benelux & Central Europe management and to CANAL+ Group in relation to various projects and campaigns.
• Manage litigations (instruct outside counsel, review submissions, etc.)
• Manage relationships with countries regulatory authorities, handle core regulatory issues and act as contact person in all regulatory related matters.
• Provide legal advice and guidance in the field of consumer protection law and trade practices, data protection, media law and copyright.
• Support and advice in respect of customer complaints
• Keep the company’s corporate books and records and ensure the corporate secretariat of the BeNeLux and Swiss companies.
• Manage filing and document retention as required.
• Provide general legal support to CANAL+ Benelux & Central Europe entities and more globally to CANAL+ Group, in close collaboration with legal team members.
• Follow-up on the evolution of the laws in the countries and within the EU within the scope of responsibility.
• Work in close collaboration with CANAL+ Group Legal department to ensure consistency, Group policy compliance and synergies.

Skills & Experience

• You have a Dutch and/or a Belgian law degree; Knowledge of Swiss legal framework would be an additional asset.
• You are fluent in Dutch, French and English (the knowledge of any other language spoken in the countries served by Canal+ Benelux & Central Europe will be considered an advantage).
• You have 4 to 6 years of previous experience, preferably in a law firm, practicing general commercial law. Previous experience in media law, telecoms and comparable environment will be considered a plus.
• You have a keen interest in AI, new technologies and media developments.
• You are business oriented; you have a generalist approach to law and are willing to tackle all legal issues.
• Being autonomous, you are able to work as part of a team and leverage on Group synergies as and when required.
• You pay attention to detail and quality.
• You are well organized, hands-on and self-starter, ready to dive into matters.
• You are commercial and pragmatic, close to business.
• You remain calm under pressure and are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where meeting strict deadlines is essential.
• Based in Luxembourg, you are willing to travel occasionally to other European destinations as required by the company.
